2022 MUSEION GRENACHE
Polyhymnia; The Muse of Harvest
Our limited supply Grenache is the the newest release in our Museion Harvest Series—a collection celebrating small-lot wines from distinctive regions across Napa Valley and beyond. This expressive wine marries vibrant mountain fruit with notes of clove, vanilla, and soft toasted oak—an inviting fireside companion for the cooler months ahead.
Polyhymnia, the Muse of Harvest
The second wine in our Harvest Series (inspired by the Muse of Harvest, Polyhymnia), this vivid, expressive Grenache marries mountain fruit with warm spice notes of clove, vanilla, and soft toasty oak. On the nose, lifted red-berry aromatics — wild strawberry, cranberry and red cherry — open to savory layers of dried herbs, cracked white pepper and a hint of graphite.
Mid-palate intensity shows darker red fruit compote and black cherry, framed by baking spice, subtle vanilla and a gentle toasty note from 25% new French oak. The texture is silky and generous, supported by moderate, fine-grained tannins and lively acidity that keep the wine fresh and food-friendly. The finish is long, marked by winter spice and lingering minerality that reflects the volcanic soils and mountain elevation.

Fermented in one small tank and punched down by hand. This limited-production wine is the second of our limited black label series and our first foray into Rhone varietals. The 2022 Grenache is composed of clones 513, 362, and 3, contributing to its layered complexity. The wine was aged for nine months in French oak barrels—25% new and 75% neutral—to enhance texture and integrate subtle oak nuance without overpowering the fruit.

Grown at 2,000 feet above sea level, the vineyard benefits from intense daytime sunlight and cool, frost-free nights. These conditions promote thicker grape skins and larger seeds, resulting in wines with greater body, structure, and intensity. The extended growing season allows the fruit to develop full flavor maturity while maintaining balance and freshness, producing wines that age gracefully and reflect the vineyard’s unique terroir. The vines are rooted in Type 220 red volcanic soils, a complex that naturally limits vigor and enhances concentration, yielding fruit with distinctive character and depth.
